Since the primary season is currently underway, this thread will be the hub of all discussion regarding the 2016 campaigns. Who are you supporting? What are the current polls? What gaffe has you laughing and/or fuming?

In all honesty I'm tied between Trump and Bernie right now leaning more towards Bernie overall though. If Bernie had Trump's charisma in foreign policy and the same level of business sense, he'd be an unstoppable candidate.

I find charisma to be important politically, but not something I look at as a voter. In Sanders, I see someone I generally agree with on foreign policy and someone I think would represent the country's interests well abroad, so he passes my main test on that issue. On foreign policy, Trump has some areas in which he differs from Republican orthodoxy and others in which he is frustratingly hawkish and warmongering. In any case, I wouldn't want Trump as America's representative on the world stage... quite frankly most of the candidates on both sides are more qualified in that aspect, even if I disagree with their positions.

I think we differ in that regard because I'm an isolationist, I believe America should cut a massive portion of its foreign aid and build a wall alongside the border of the US / Mexico and get the Mexican government to pay for it using trade restrictions and a numerous amount of other tools needed to make that happen. I'm not for the complete deportation of illegal immigrants; if they pay taxes, they should be allowed to stay. Otherwise, they should be deported. I'm surprised you would say he's warmongering considering a lot of his official positions as a Republican are surprisingly... non-Republican and lean more towards a centrist view.

I'm surprised you would say he's warmongering considering a lot of his official positions as a Republican are surprisingly... non-Republican and lean more towards a centrist view. Like I said, on many issues related to foreign policy he's a lot more centrist, which I like... there are still some in which he's very much a Republican but that's to be expected. Sanders opposed most of the foreign wars the US has engaged in in the last few decades, so I think those views would probably be to your liking as an isolationist. The deportation issue is more complicated for me... obviously in a perfect world I would be for mass deportations, but Trump's plan is both expensive and unrealistic, and would take more than 20 years. I'm very strongly for deporting any illegal immigrants with a violent record, but other than that I think some sort of pathway to legal status for those that pay their taxes is needed, as you said. Deporting somewhere in the ballpark of 30 million people (every illegal immigrant in America) as Trump has suggested wouldn't be realistic and would be a massive drain on resources... let those who are willing to come forward and pay back taxes do so, and crack down on the rest.

Am I the only one who finds it a little interesting that Hillary has most of the black vote when she voted against civil rights all those years ago?
