So, what's y'all's opinions on DC and Marvel's respective film universes?
Personally, I have very much enjoyed both as of late and I am one of the few avid supporters of the direction that Man of Steel decided to take with Superman's character. (I found him to be annoying, whiny and overly patriotic before) Also Marvel has been consistently fantastic over the last few years.

Marvel has been very successful at having a unified vision for their films, which has been sorely lacking from DC. I know Marvel's producers have been criticized by some for exerting too much control over the individual directors, but I think it's that exact balance between individual creativity and the unified whole that has made the MCU so engaging, even when some of the individual movies were weaker. DC hasn't even attempted what Marvel has until now, and even now that they're having their own "cinematic universe", I'm already concerned by what I've seen of Batman v. Superman, and Suicide Squad seems just alright. They don't seem to have a vision besides "let's put our biggest heroes in movies together because we looked at Marvel and decided that's what people want". They're not even doing origin stories for a lot of these heroes. I'm not even a big comic fan but it definitely feels like DC is playing catch-up.

It looks like kind of a mess to me, and I haven't been a big fan of Snyder except for 300. Man of Steel wasn't bad but I wasn't huge on it, and this seems like it will be very similar tonally. I'm not even a big Superman fan, but if you're going to make a Superman movie, make a Superman movie, instead of basically trying to move over the Nolan Batman formula to Superman (a move that isn't surprising since both franchises share David Goyer as a screenwriter and Nolan as producer).

Superman needed the Batman formula to feel fresh though; let's face it, Superman isn't exactly the most three dimensional character out there. He's kinda just (ERMAHGERD PATRIOTISM, ERMAHGERD SUPER STRENGTH, ERMAHGERD KRYPTONIAN). Man of Steel actually gave him character.

Idk, Man of Steel just felt off to me.

I know this is a film discussion but there's not really a place to talk about tv shows. I personally really like the DC Comic TV shows Arrow and the Flash. (I'm also starting to like Legends of Tomorrow) I've also seen some of Marvel's TV shows on Netflix, Jessica Jones and Daredevil. To be honest Marvel TV shows can be a little all over the place where plot and character development is. Agent Carter would be the exception in this case. The DC shows are very good where plot and character development is.
I can't really comment on Man of Steel because I haven't seen it or Batman vs Superman because I know very little about it.
