Butterfree
Type: Bug / Flying
Abilities: Compound Eyes / Tinted Lens
Stats:
HP: 60
Attack: 45
Defense: 50
Special Attack: 90
Special Defense: 80
Speed: 70
Overview:
Butterfree got a new tool in Air Slash this generation, and as a result is finally able to properly utilize both of its STAB moves. Combine this with its wonderful ability Tinted Lens and access to Quiver Dance and you've got yourself a Pokemon ready to nail anything after a boost for relatively decent damage. Unfortunately Butterfree's typing is still terrible defensively, and Stealth Rocks are gonna nail 50% of your HP with every switch in, so you're going to want decent support. However if you play to Butterfree's strengths, it can make a wonderful late game cleaner.
Set #1: Late Game Cleaner
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+ Spe, - Atk)
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Tinted Lens
Moves:
Quiver Dance
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Giga Drain / Shadow Ball
Set Description: Quiver Dance, then go hard with one of your two STAB moves. Thanks to Tinted Lens, even Pokemon that resist those two hits are still going to be hit hard after a boost. The last slot is for specialized coverage. Giga Drain is for Water / Ground / Rock types and can restore Life Orb recoil damage to make your sweep last a bit longer, or you could use Shadow Ball for specific annoying threats.
Other Options: Butterfree has access to Sleep Powder, and Stun Spore with the Compound Eyes ability to be able to accurately spread status around. It has some wonderful support movepool options such as Tailwind, Defog, Roost, Morning Sun, and Whirlwind. It has access to Psychic, but more often than not this is useless due to access to STAB Air Slash. It has access to niche moves such as Electroweb (which could be useful on a Focus Sash set for stopping a sweep), or Venoshock (due to the heavy prevalence of Toxic Spikes in the lower tiers).
