The three Regis are Pokemon with fantastic defensive stats and semi-decent offensive stats. There's one problem that plagues all three of them though; no access to good recovery moves outside of Rest / Sleep Talk. So my question today is, what if the Regis had access to Recover? Where would they stand in terms of viability?
Out of all three. Registeel would benefit the most. It would shoot up straight from the lower tiers right into OU (or at least into UU's banlist) for several reasons.
- Being free of Resttalk means that Registeel's main Curse set has the option of including an additional attacking move (since only one slot would be taken up for Recovery and not two for Rest and Sleep Talk). This freedom of a second moveslot allows it access to an amazing physical movepool to use along with his STAB Iron Head. Such fantastic options are: Brick Break, Earthquake, Explosion (Niche), Ice Punch, Power-Up Punch (Niche), Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, and Thunder Punch. Run Rock Slide and Talonflame can no longer switch into Registeel and force it out, run Ice Punch and Gliscor is no longer a hard counter but a shaky check, the possibilities are endless.
- That 80 / 150 / 150 Bulk with access to an arguably very nice pure Steel typing is a blessing as it would be one of the few Pokemon to out and out fill the niche of Aegislash's defensive wonder in OU bar some obvious advantages. Along with this, defensive roles now have even more longevity, allowing Registeel to spread status far more easily across entire teams and set up Rocks without any difficulty.
Regirock would be the next highest to benefit from the addition of Recover; its titanic 200 base defense would be further complimented by Curse / Recover and would allow it to become a powerful physically oriented sweeper.
Regice unfortunately would not benefit as much; the recovery is greatly appreciated but for the most part is relatively unnoticed due to the sore lack of a special stats increasing move such as Calm Mind or Nasty Plot.
Do you guys have any thoughts? What are some sets you would all run if the Regis received access to Recover?
