Honedge
Type: Steel / Ghost
Abilities: No Guard
Stats:
HP: 45
Attack: 80
Defense: 100
Special Attack: 35
Special Defense: 37
Speed: 28
Description: Due to its next evolution Doublade being locked away in UU, and its final evolution Aegislash locked away in Ubers; Honedge has free reign over the lower tiers. Unfortunately, Honedge doesn't have higher base stats on its side like in its evolutions but it still has a niche. Access to Swords Dance, STAB Priority, the ability to use Eviolite with a fantastic Physical defense and great defensive typing all allow Honedge to function in NU with the proper support. However, lackluster special defense, non-existent speed, and an ability that unfortunately is more detrimental rather than helpful in most cases work against Honedge. If you're looking for a unique and at times powerful new addition to your team, look no further than Honedge and its positive characteristics might surprise you.
Set #1: Swords Dance
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 SpD
Nature: Adamant (+ Atk, - SpA)
Item: Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
Moves:
Swords Dance
Shadow Sneak / Shadow Claw
Iron Head
Rock Slide / Sacred Sword
Set Description: This is a pretty straightforward set; simply boost then maim everything with priority Shadow Sneak. If speed isn't an issue for you, run STAB Shadow Claw for more power (ideal for Trick Room teams). Iron Head is reliable STAB that maims Fairy, Rock and Ice types. The last slot is dependent on your coverage needs. Rock Slide has the benefit of never missing due to No Guard, while Sacred Sword ignores Defense boosts.
Other Options: Unfortunately due to Honedge's limited movepool and Physical-centric stats, there aren't really any other options beside far reaching niches that barely have any viability.
