Girafarig
Type: Normal / Psychic
Abilities: Early Bird / Inner Focus / Sap Sipper
Stats:
HP: 70
Attack: 80
Defense: 65
Special Attack: 90
Special Defense: 65
Speed: 85
Description: Girafarig surprisingly has a lot going for it; its niche typing gives it only two weaknesses (Dark and Bug types) while only being hit neutrally by common offensive types such as Fighting. It also has an immunity to two common attacking types, Ghost and Grass (Sap Sipper). With a nice movepool backing it up, one would be lead to wonder why Girafarig isn't more commonly used. It's simply because of his stats; they're not up to par. While base 85 Speed is decent in the lower tiers, his offensive stats are just not up to par. However, thanks to some useful boosting moves, it can be overlooked.
Set #1: Nasty Plot
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+ Spe, - Atk)
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Sap Sipper
Moves:
Nasty Plot
Psyshock
Hyper Voice
Thunderbolt / Energy Ball / Shadow Ball / Dazzling Gleam
Set Description: Nasty Plot to boost up Girafarig's Special Attack to respectable levels. Psyshock is one of your main STAB moves and will nail Fighting types super effectively. Hyper Voice is simply there to have a powerful STAB attack that also bypasses Substitutes. Last slot is entirely dependent on your coverage needs. Thunderbolt nails Water, and Flying types for super effective damage. Energy Ball nails Water, Ground, and Rock types for super effective damage. Shadow Ball nails Ghosts and Psychics for super effective damage. Dazzling Gleam nails Dark, Dragon, and Fighting types for super effective damage.
Set #2: Bulky Work Up
EVs: 252 HP, 124 Atk, 134 SpA
Nature: Brave (+ Atk, - Spe)
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
Moves:
Work Up
Sucker Punch
Hyper Voice
Wish / Earthquake / Psyshock
Set Description: This is a unique set that only Girafarig can pull off and can quickly gain momentum with predicted switches and boosts. Work Up boosts both his Attack and Special Attack. Sucker Punch is powerful priority that nails Psychic and Ghost type Pokemon for super effective damage and in general thanks to Work Up boosts and possible Sap Sipper boosts still hits pretty hard. Hyper Voice is powerful STAB that nails through Substitutes but you could also use Return in favor of slightly more Base Power (although the ability to slam through Substitutes is incredibly more helpful on this slower set. The last slot should be given to Wish to help boost Girafarig's longevity, although you could opt for another useful coverage move like Earthquake or STAB Psyshock.
Set #3: Utility
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpA, 4 Spe
Nature: Modest (+ SpA, - Atk)
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
Moves:
Thunder Wave
Wish
Hyper Voice
Substitute / Magic Coat / Protect
Set Description: A nice little set that focuses on crippling your opponents team via Thunder Wave and passing off semi-decent Wish HP restores to your team. The fourth slot is dependent on your individual needs. Hyper Voice is for a powerful STAB move that ignores Substitutes and makes it so that Girafarig isn't complete Taunt bait. Magic Coat is wonderful for bouncing back attempts at status and hazards, Substitute and Protect are both great for mind games as well.
Other Options: Calm Mind is an option to consider using as Girafarig with enough support has just enough Bulk to pull it off (this could be improved possibly if you run Wish). A Choice Set (Either Band or Specs) is a possibility and even has a small niche thanks to Girafarig's access to Trick to pass Choice locking items to your opponent. Trick Room is in its movepool but due to its semi-high speed it's generally not recommended. Access to both Light Screen and Reflect also makes Dual Screens an option.
