Nincada
Type: Bug / Ground
Abilities: Compound Eyes / Run Away
Stats:
HP: 31
Attack: 45
Defense: 90
Special Attack: 30
Special Defense: 30
Speed: 40
Description: Nincada, the pre-evolution for the famous Baton Passer Ninjask and also the niche Wonder Guard Shedinja. One would be lead to wonder how Nincada would ever be considered for use in NU or any other tier for that matter. The answer lies in three key places; base 90 defense (which when boosted with Eviolite jumps up to 459), Bug / Ground typing (giving it a very much needed immunity to Volt Switch and all other Electric type moves), and access to Dig / Mud Slap. This set may be a gimmick; but when it works, it works fantastically. It will frustrate all your opponents and allow you to outstall everything from Mega Manectric to Mega Garchomp with ease. Just remember though that bar his Defense, the rest of his stats are absolutely pitiful.
Set #1: Toxic Staller
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Atk, 252 Def
Nature: Relaxed (+ Def, - Spe)
Item: Eviolite
Ability: Compound Eyes
Moves:
Toxic
Protect
Dig
Mud-Slap / Sandstorm
Set Description: Switch Nincada in after something dies, or on something that relies on Physical damage. I cannot stress enough how great Nincada's defense is. So I'll just show you some damage calculations from OU's top threats against Nincada.
252 Atk Mega Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Nincada: 102-120 (38.3 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Nincada: 218-260 (81.9 - 97.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Hoopa Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Nincada: 99-117 (37.2 - 43.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Nincada: 246-290 (92.4 - 109%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
It's a defensive nightmare even for things that hit it super effectively; let alone Pokemon who don't have coverage. All you have to do, is Toxic (which has no thanks of missing thanks to Compound Eyes); then stall with Protect / Dig. Mud-Slap can be used for a predicted switch in if you're feeling lucky. Alternatively you could set up Sandstorm. Thanks to its Bug / Ground typing, it can come in on Ground, Fighting and Poison attacks suffering next to no damage. It also has an immunity to Electric types and an important neutrality to Rock types.
Other Options: Unfortunately there aren't many other options for this guy, he doesn't have enough of a movepool for that or the stats to take advantage of some cool offensive options.
